GMI Insurance Welcomes Andrew Farmer

Andrew joined GMI Insurance as our new Underwriter for Cannabis Transport, Business Auto and General Liability programs. We sat down with him recently to find out more about what makes him tick.

What will you be doing at GMI?

While I started as an underwriter, GMI gave me the opportunity to do some Business Development too. After I graduated with my BS from West Chester University of Pennsylvania, I got interested in insurance and became a Commercial and Personal Lines Account Manager at The Dollfus Agency and then The Satanoff Insurance Agency. I was ready for a challenge, and wanted to gain a deeper knowledge of the industry, so I moved to GMI.

What is it about you that surprises people?

My wife is from Colombia! I am an Eagle Scout and an avid snowboarder too. It’s important for me to be involved in social causes like Animal Welfare, the Environment, Human Rights, Poverty Alleviation, and Social Services. It’s our world and we need to do our part to make it a better place for everyone.

What would you like to accomplish in the next five years?

One of my goals is to own a house in Colombia, where my wife is from. I’m really interested in her culture and I would like to spend more time with her family too.

What is your favorite movie quote?

“Life’s a Garden, Dig it!” by Joe Dirt. It is all about making life work for you, basically a lesson in persistence.

What programs are you currently binge watching?

The Netflix show “I Think You Should Leave.” It’s a comedy series featuring Tim Robinson and his guests who try to drive someone to the point of wanting to leave. It’s hysterical!

Where do you hope to travel next?

I would love to take my wife to Colombia for our 5th wedding anniversary celebration this July. We are also hoping to go to the Philippines for a wedding next year. I’ve got my passport and I’m looking forward to using it!
